ABC’s of Design: Poster

As part of an educational initiative continuing into 2026, we welcomed students from Tar Primary School.

The students were divided into two groups, rotating between a workshop and a guided tour of the Centre. The workshop focused on the poster: what it is, what it consists of and how it works as a visual medium. Particular attention was given to visual metaphors as a tool designers use to convey a message without words.

Once they had grasped the basics, the students were given a task that put theory into practice: to design a poster on a topic that means something to them personally. Through sketches and visual concepts, they produced work that reflected their own perspectives and interests. Some also experimented with artificial intelligence tools, which transformed their hand-drawn posters into digital designs.

ABC’s of Design is a programme run by Association Sonda in collaboration with the Croatian Designers Association, which launched the initiative in 2009. The workshops introduce children and young people to the basics of design and its role in everyday life, and are tailored to the age of participants. They are led by professional designers and creatives, with educational staff present throughout.

The programme is co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia.
