Designer’s Beginner: Design and Ecology

As part of another workshop in the Designer’s Beginner Course program held at the Sonda Creative Center, the eighth-grade students of the Vižinada Regional School designed their own eco-friendly chairs.

Design decisions are made daily around the world, making it more important than ever to raise awareness of its significance and the responsibility to adhere to ecological principles and be in line with sustainable development for both individuals and their environment.

In collaboration with the Croatian Designers Association (HDD), the Sonda Association organized a workshop on Design and Ecology for the eighth-grade students of Vižinada Regional School, introducing the young participants to design and educating them about its importance through examples of best practices. The students also got hands-on experience with a prototype of the ecologically sustainable EMPA table and chair set, which serves both a practical and educational purpose.

In a fun and creative way—by defining challenges, understanding our own and others’ needs, and discussing potential solutions and ideas—the participants took on the role of young designers and sketched their own eco-friendly chairs. They had the opportunity to present their great ideas to their classmates and teachers.

The workshop, held on November 7 at the Sonda Creative Center, was led by Jelena Fiškuš and Sean Poropat, creative directors, owners, and founders of Studio Sonda, an independent creative studio for design and communications founded in 2004. They are recipients of over 100 national and international professional awards.
