This summer, you can find special equipment pickup stations at destinations including Poreč, Pula, Vrsar, Tar-Vabriga, Funtana, and Telašćica Nature Park.
Once again, you have the chance to become a SeaStar Hero – explore the underwater world, have fun, and do a good deed for nature while enjoying numerous benefits.
Participation is simple: sign up with the project coordinator or lifeguard on the beach, pick up a net and gloves, and start your sea-cleaning adventure. Every diver who returns the equipment and collected waste will receive a badge, while those who gather larger amounts of waste will earn a t-shirt and the title of “SeaStar Hero,” which comes with special perks at local hospitality venues.
During the tourist season, the number of visitors to the Adriatic can increase up to seven times, bringing a surge in small waste that ends up in the sea every day. While beaches are regularly cleaned of bulky waste, small waste remains a significant issue. That’s why we launched SeaStar Hero – a project that not only raises awareness of this challenge but, for the second year, actively provides a solution and invites you to join in preserving the sea.
Last year, SeaStar Hero started as a pilot project at five locations in Poreč. This year, thanks to the support of the Croatian National Tourist Board, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, and Zadar County, it has expanded to a total of 13 locations. SeaStar Heroes are backed by many partners, including local tourist boards and businesses, who recognize the importance of preserving our Adriatic.
